Given her remarkable journey, we sat down with Think Bigger program participant Eman Aldhafeeri to ask her a few questions.
What motivated you to enroll in the Think Bigger program?
I was motivated to enroll in the Think Bigger program because I believe that innovation is fundamentally about problem-solving. In my role at a governmental enabler for innovation, I am eager to adopt this mindset in order to effectively support innovation enablement. The program’s unique blend of creativity and strategic thinking aligns perfectly with my professional needs and goals. Its structured, methodological approach to tackling complex challenges is particularly appealing, as it will equip me to better assist decision-making.
What key takeaways from the program have had the most significant impact on your professional journey?
One of the most significant takeaways from the program has been recognizing the power of creative thinking and its application across various aspects of life. This mindset has enabled me to tackle challenges as opportunities for targeted solutions, fostering continuous learning and growth.
Additionally, I've learned to develop effective solutions through a structured six-step method, which has greatly enhanced my problem-solving skills. Most importantly, the program emphasized the value of maintaining an open dialogue with stakeholders. This approach ensures that we consider multiple perspectives when addressing problems, allowing us to identify the best solutions.
Were there any elements of the program that particularly impressed you?
Dr. Sheena’s six-step Think Bigger methodology truly stood out to me. Its simplicity and practicality made it easy for me to apply it right away to the challenges I face in my work.
I also found the Choice Mapper tool to be incredibly beneficial. It helps streamline problem-solving by organizing and refining ideas, which has had a significant impact on my approach. I've even shared this tool with my colleagues to spread its advantages and encourage collaborative innovation.
How has your participation enhanced your approach to leadership and decision-making?
The Think Bigger program has sharpened my decision-making to achieve effective leadership. As a statistician and data scientist, I work alongside leaders and understand how crucial strategic thinking is. This experience has helped me handle challenges better and offer improved solutions to assist decision-makers.
What advice would you give to others considering this program?
For anyone considering this program to develop innovative solutions, I would emphasize its strong focus on developing informed decision-making skills rather than relying solely on personal assumptions. The program offers a fact-based approach that significantly enhances these skills, providing participants with the tools they need to make effective decisions.
What was your biggest takeaway from learning the six-step Think Bigger methodology?
One of the biggest takeaways from the six-step methodology is moving beyond traditional brainstorming to a structured, science-based approach. It encourages thinking beyond conventional boundaries to create real, meaningful change.
Did you have any “aha” moments that changed the way you approach decision-making?
I had an “aha” moment when Dr. Sheena explained that solutions take time to develop. This realization made me understand that providing quick answers isn't always the best approach when working with top management. By taking a step back and reevaluating the problem, I often uncover new details and perspectives that I initially missed.
What was it like learning directly from Professor Sheena Iyengar and the expert faculty team?
Learning from Professor Sheena Iyengar and the expert faculty team was an amazing experience. Her kind and engaging teaching style made complex ideas easy to grasp, and she encouraged interaction, allowing us to learn from each other’s experiences.
How has Choice Mapper enhanced your ability to generate and refine innovative ideas?
It made my life easier! By breaking down problems into smaller sub-problems, then generating solutions for each one. It also allowed me to combine different solution elements to create new and innovative ideas in a highly structured and organized way.
